Autism Assessment

All you need to know about taking an assessment with me

How does an autism assessment work?

In my autism assessment clinic, I offer full autism assessments for those who would like to find out whether they meet the criteria for a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition.

What to expect from an autism assessment

  • The completion of several questionnaires commonly used in the assessment of autism, in accordance with the NICE guidelines. You’ll receive the questionnaires after booking your assessment for you to fill out in your own time.

  • Up to 150 minute meeting that includes questions about your developmental history, your sensory and communication preferences, what helps you get on with life demands and how you cope with life challenges. You can download my autism assessment record sheet for more information about the areas that are covered in an autism assessment.

  • Up to 60 minute conversation with a parent/carer who knew you when you were a child or a partner. Not everybody has someone available, and that’s ok.

  • A feedback session to be booked after your assessment and a summary report with the outcome of the assessment.

  • The assessment will provide information as to whether you meet the DSM-5 criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder or Condition, whether you may be autistic but do not meet the criteria for a diagnosis and whether there are other explanations to explain your communication, sensory preferences and your thinking and coping styles.

  • Price: £1790 (£260.00 deposit taken on initial booking)

If you are not sure whether to go ahead with a full assessment and you’d like to have a briefer assessment to explore whether some of your habits, coping skills, etc. could indicate that you are autistic, you may wish to have a screening assessment first.

What to expect from a screening assessment

  • The completion of several questionnaires commonly used in the assessment of autism.

  • Up to 90-minute meeting that includes questions about your developmental history, your sensory and communication preferences, what helps you get on with life demands and how you cope with life challenges.

  • You get the outcome at the end of your appointment and a summary report after the meeting. The outcome of the screening assessment show some of the traits, behaviours and coping strategies that are common in autism and help you to decide whether you’d like to pursue a full assessment.

  • Price: £790 (£260.00 deposit taken on initial booking).

  • If you wish to have a full assessment after your screening assessment, the amount paid for the screening is deducted from the total, as there is an overlap between both assessments. Hence, you’d pay £1000 to top up your screening assessment.

All assessments are conducted online.

Neurodiversity affirming assessment

I strive to adapt the assessment to every person’s needs. I offer adaptions to make the person being assessed feel as comfortable as possible to give them the best chance to explain their difficulties and experience. I encourage people to make their environment as comfortable and familiar as possible, and to have anything that may help you do your best and feel as relaxed as possible during the assessment. Please let me know if there is anything that would make our meeting easier.

Please be aware that the outcome of the assessment could be that you do not meet the DSM-V criteria for a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder or Condition. This does not mean that you are not autistic or that you are not neurodivergent. It means that you do not meet the criteria for a formal diagnosis based on the DSM-V criteria.
